Lace Knitting with Thread
Instructor: Cheryl Stegert
Time to knit some gorgeous knit tablecloths or doilies. Thread is not as forgiving as wool, but that does not mean it can’t be enjoyable to use. Learn two methods of casting on for as few as 3 to 8 stitches with cotton thread. We’ll discuss increasing frequencies and how decreases affect the appearance of the yarn-overs. We’ll look at incorporating twisted stitches and other textures to emphasize the lace motif. We’ll also explore the lace mesh patterns that hold the whole piece together. Students must be comfortable with double pointed needles and have knit a sock or two.
Material fee: $5 handouts
Students to bring: DMC or Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Cotton, size 10 AND Double pointed needles (set of 5) size 0,1, and 2 – since this is potentially your first thread project there will be a “learning” curve to your tension, thus the variation in needle size.
