Knitting, Spinning, or Two Pie Basket

Instructor: Stefania Isaacson


Come join us to make the perfect basket for all projects. This basket
style was traditionally used to carry 2 nine inch pies to the barn
raising, the family picnic, or the social gathering. I use mine for
knitting and spinning projects! In this class you will learn the basic
steps to basket making and will be able to be as creative as you want
with color and texture. The basket is 10"x15"x8" with a sturdy D handle.


Students need to bring: bucket, spring-type clothes pins, ruler or tape
measure, pencil, flat-headed screw driver, scissors, and a towel.

Materials fee: $30 A variety of all materials will be provided along with the pattern.


Students have the option of bringing novelty yarn, raffia, or whatever
material they wish to accent their basket.

          Saturday Morning Classes

 

Felted Photos

Instructor: Vickie Maslanka

Felting photos is a fun class where you will learn how to take a photo and paint it with wool.  It is an enjoyable way to learn how to work with wool and blend colors to create a piece of artwork or a gift. NO experience necessary.

You will be making a 5”x7” picture. There will be some sample pictures or you can bring a picture of your own to work with in class.  If you are able, bring a 5x7 picture frame for your completed project.

Material Fee: $5 (includes materials: wool, needles, fabric and handouts)

 

Square Loom Weaving

Instructor – Pat Herman

Have fun learning to weave on a four inch square loom while creating a loom bloom, spinning oil bottle holder, amulet bag or baby booties.  The students will learn how to plain weave, make color changes, correct mistakes an finish their projects.  Examples of what can be done using  four inch woven squares will be available to view and touch.  This is a quick and fun class!

Students need to bring: 2- 2 oz. Balls of worsted weight yarn – 100% wool, crochet hook size H, tapestry fork, salad fork or hair pick, scissors, tapestry needle, pen and paper for notes.

Material fee - $20 materials will be the four inch square loom and instruction booklet.

Beginning Fair Isle Knitting

Instructor: Nora Ahlen

Students will learn construction and color techniques for successful Fair Isle knitting.

Students should be able to Knit and Purl and Cast On

Students need to bring:
On a 16 inch circular needle, or 4, or 5 double ended needles cast on enough stitches for a hat.  Cable cast on or long tail cast on is preferred but any cast on will work.  In yarn and main color of your choice, K 1, P 1 for 1 1/2 inches.  For in class knitting, bring 3 to 7 colors to work with, and crayons or colored pencils if you have them.
 Material fee:  $1 for print outs.

          Saturday Afternoon Classes

 

Buttons, Buttons & More Buttons

Instructor: Lynne Bergschultz

Have you ever searched for just the right button to complete your project?  Big, small, round or square, buttons can transform an ordinary garment into stunning wearable art.  Lynne Bergschultz has made thousands of polymer buttons over the past decade and loves to share her passion for polymer with others.
Class participants will learn the properties of polymer and be introduced to a variety of button-making techniques.  The clay is washable when finished, durable and offers unlimited creative possibilities.  We will explore methods for color mixing and matching, texturing, surface design and finishing. Come just for the fun of it.  This is a wonderfully forgiving and engaging medium. 
Everyone is encouraged to bring projects which need buttons.  This could be a finished piece, a work in progress, an old favorite in need of updating, or a thrift store find.  The results will be exciting! 


Materials fee: $10 Tools and everything else will be provided for your use.

Knit To Fit

Instructor: Nora Ahlen

Students will learn techniques to ensure your hand knit sweater will fit


Material fee is $1 for print outs.
 

Students should bring: Bring yarn you want to knit with, several sizes of needles to use, pattern you want to knit, and a sweater, sweatshirt, or shirt that fits you perfectly.

 Introduction Class:  Tunisian Crochet 101

Instructor: Lisa Haskell

Tunisian crochet, also known as the afghan stitch combines the best of crocheting and knitting.  Tunisian crochet can look just like knitting!   We will be learning all the basic stitches, increases, decreases, changing colors and finishing techniques.  A few more complicated stitches will be introduced while we create a small bag.  Basic crochet experience would be helpful, but not necessary.

Material Fee: $12 class kit includes Tunisian Crochet Needle, yarn, and instruction sheets.

                 Sunday Morning Classes
         

Spinning for Lace Knitting

Instructor: Stefania Isaacson

Learn to spin very fine, lace weight yarn in a number of different
fibers suitable for lace knitting. We will discuss appropriate fibers,
needle size, and knitting technics to enhance our projects. Students
will spin fine wool, silk, cashmere, cotton, and linen and knit a lace
swatch with each, resulting in many samples to take home. The goal is to
produce sumptuous, luxurious yarns that will make our lace knitting all
the more special.

Materials fee: $15

Students need to bring: Spinning wheel, ball winder, niddy noddy,
knitting needles–size 1, 3, and 5, note paper and pen.

Maximum students: 15

 

Off-Loom Woven Beret

Instructor: Lisa Haskell

This is an opportunity to use your handspun or favorite specialty yarn  (preferably sport or DK)  to create a one-of-a-kind handwoven beret.  The berets will be woven on single-use looms.  Warping of the loom will be finished in class and some weaving will be done in class.  The beret will be finished independently.  The Russian Join method will be demonstrated and used when weaving the beret.  Examples of several woven berets will be available to inspire creativity. 

Material fee $15 & includes needle, warp yarn, off-loom template, and instruction sheets.  Additional Off-loom Templates will be available for $10 each.

Beading – Peyote Stitch  

Instructor: Nora Ahlen

Students will learn Peyote stitch and make a pair of earrings.

   
Material fee is $10 for a kit that includes ear wires, head pins, needle, thread, beads, and instructions.

Students should bring:  Bring good reading glasses if necessary, and an Ott light if you have one.

3-D Felted Critters

Instructor: Vickie Maslanka

3-D felted critters is a fun class where you learn how to make a critter/sculpture in wool.  It is an enjoyable way to work with wool and learn how to incorporate mixed mediums, clay and wire to create a unique piece of artwork or a gift.  No experience necessary.

Material fee: $5 (includes wool, needle, wire, clay and handouts)
